14 Day Experience: Workshop + Accommodation + Cusco Tour

April 26 – May 9

This is a very special exeprience that includes the tapestry weaving workshop, your accommodation at the Xima Hotel in Cusco (where the workshopo will take place) and 4 days of tours, in order to explore Machu Picchu, towns and markets surrounding Cusco, arqueological sites of this area and a hands-on natural dyes workshop in the town of Chinchero, at the outskirts of Cusco.

This trip is exclusive to those participating in the workshop, so it is a great way to explore Cusco with fellow textiles lovers!

The Itinerary, including the workshop, is as follows:

Day 1: Arriving to Cusco

April 26

On the first day you’ll be arriving to Cusco. We’ll coordinate your transfer from the Cusco airport to the Xima Hotel, located in the historical center of Cusco, which will be our home for the following weeks.

Since Cusco is located at a high elevation (3,399 m, 11,152 ft), we recommend that you use this first day to rest and get used to the altitude.

Day 2: City Tour

April 27

Given the narrow alleyways of Cusco were originally designed by the Incas for walking, we will explore the city through a walking tour. We will visit the Cathedral of Cusco and then head to Qoricancha, which is the “Sun Temple” of the Incas located in within the city.

After lunch we’ll show you where the Museo Maximo Laura is located (Maximo’s gallery/ museum in Cuzco, which exhibits tapestries from his private collection) and then head to the traditional neighborhood of San Blas, known for being the neighborhood of artisans of Cusco, where we will visit the galleries of our favorite local artisans.

Before ending the day, we will visit the gallery/museum of the CTTC (Center of Traditional Textiles of Cusco), to see some of the most beautiful traditional textiles found in this area. They are a non-profit organization established to aid in the survival of traditional Andean textile traditions and to provide support to weaving communities. They have a gallery/museum in the city of Cusco, and another location in the town of Chinchero, an hour away from Cusco. We will visit their Cusco location first, and will go to their location in Chinchero to do our natural dyes workshop with them on Day 13. We have added this visit, even if we are visiting them in Chinchero, because in Cusco you will find a variety of quality of textiles, so we want to show you this very high quality work early on.

Day 3 – 9: Tapestry Weaving Workshop

April 28 – May 4

For the following 7 days you’ll be at the tapestry weaving workshop, which will be held at the Xima Hotel. For those 7 days, the schedule is as follows:

After 5:00 pm, the time is yours to explore the city, go back to some of the places we visited during the city tour or rest.

Day 10: Pisaq Market and Archeological Site

May 5

We’ll leave the hotel after breakfast and head to the Pisaq Market, a traditional market where many locals sell and barter their homegrown fruits, vegetables, and which has also expanded to include, textiles, ceramic, jewelry, musical instruments and much more! On our way to Pisaq we will stop at a weaving center to get some insight into the entire textile process, we will see alpacas, llamas and vicuñas and explore the textile process in the Andes.

After having time to explore the Pisaq Market, we will have lunch at a local restaurant in the market, and then meet back to go to the Pisaq Archeological Site, where we will spend the rest of the afternoon. After Pisaq we will head to our hotel in the city of Cusco.
