2026 Cusco: February 13 – 22, 2026
(Full)
2026 Cusco: September 1 – 10, 2026
Come share with us a 10-day tapestry weaving workshop designed and taught by Maximo Laura for weavers of all levels of experience.
You will learn, hands-on, the process and techniques used by Maximo Laura in a unique learning environment, taught by the master himself.
Maestro Maximo Laura is an internationally renowed textile artist known for his tapestry techniques and use of color.
He combines ancient traditions from the Andes with contemporary tapestry weaving, as well as his own textured techniques, to create tapestries that are vibrant in color and in textures.
He has been designated as one of Peru’s “Living Human Treasures”. This important award is given, following UNESCO guidelines, to an artist whose role is to preserve and elevate the culture of their homeland.
Throughout his 35+ years as a tapestry weaver, he has exhibited his work in more than 29 countries, winning many awards in an international and national level.
This workshop is designed to adapt to the experience of each participant, as you will have the personal hand of Maximo Laura assisting the group during the workshop, along with three master weavers, Jim Laura, Richar Laura, and Paola Laura.
It is open for beginners, intermediate, and advanced weavers. Although it is not a requirement, we recommend participants have basic previous experience on a loom to be able to take more advantage of this workshop.
Maestro Laura and the Master Weavers will be with you throughout all the workshop.
On the last day of the workshop, we will organize a special exhibition with all the completed pieces, sharing the last day with Maestro Laura and receiving your certificate for completion of the workshop. You will be able to take your piece with you at no additional cost!
During this workshop you will learn:
Design: The process used by Maestro Laura to design his works, as well as the considerations and challenges while designing and making cartoons in tapestry
Technology: The technology involved in the design part of the process
Color: How to prepare the colors and the technique to obtain optical effects and blend colors in materials

The workshop will take place in Cuzco – Peru, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
Specifically, the workshop will take place within the hotel Sonesta Posada del Inca Yucay, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas (also known as the Sacred Valley of Cusco or Sacred Valley of Urubamba), 1:30 hours away from the city of Cusco
We have decided to organize the workshop in Cuzco because it is a fascinating region to explore, especially if you are a textile lover! Cusco is the archeological capital of South America, with some of the most important ruins of the Inca empire and wonderful places to explore for textiles and folk art.
The itinerary also includes a guided City Tour of Cusco so you can get to know its beautiful streets, galleries, shops and cafes. We’ll show you Cusco’s artistic neighborhood, as well as our favorite spots to find art and textiles!
The workshop will take place in the conference room of the hotel Sonesta Posadas del Inca Yucay in the Sacred Valley of Cusco.
In the surroundings of the hotel we can find a beautiful landscape with archaeological sites, fields, crops and the most special thing, an ancient Inca trail perfect for morning or afternoon walks.
Here you can see a video of the surroundings in 4K!

TESTIMONIALS
This workshop is a bucket-list experience for a tapestry weaver. Maximo and his team are a well-oiled machine, dedicated to ensuring that every student has a successful learning experience.
A full seven days of weaving, with one of the world's best weavers, in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, is a truly magical experience. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone and everyone who is interested in tapestry weaving. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced tapestry weaver, there's something here for you. I came home full of ideas and inspiration for future projects.

What a great workshop! I loved everything about it. There was so much material packed into each day, and having our looms and materials prepped ahead of time allowed us to immediately focus on the techniques in our samplers.
Máximo and his master weavers were immensely patient, knowledgeable and helpful, answering all our questions, showing us again and again, and getting us out of our messes with kindness. We worked hard but the workshop was well paced… so much so that we all finished our projects within a short time from each other.
If you really want to up your tapestry game and learn from a master, this is the workshop to take!

Tho not a tapestry weaver, I love everything fiber, color and texture. I’ve admired Maximo Laura’s work for years and super excited to get into his May 2024 workshop in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
Maximo and his Team provided the most amazing experiential learning environment. For 10 days, I played with colorful yarn. With patient guidance from instructors, I learned new techniques and created my first tapestry😊.
I cultivated friendships with participants from five countries. The accommodations and attention to detail of Maximo’s Team made this one of the best experiences of my life! Thank You!!
I highly recommend and hope to return to Peru for a follow up workshop. ❤️🧶

As a relatively novice tapestry weaver, I felt appropriately challenged but also satisfied with the level of teaching. I learned a lot about new tapestry techniques and about how to combine and transition colors in the weft - something I so admire in Maximo's work.
More than that, however, I learned a new way of looking at the world around me. I started noticing flowers and landscapes in their luxurious gradations of color and texture, and that circled back to enhanced insight and empowerment. An amazing experience!
