Cusco Extension Tour

This will be exclusively with students of the tapestry weaving workshop, so you will only travel with your fellow students

The Itinerary that we have planned is as follows:

Day 1: Arrival in Cusco & Acclimatization
July 17, 2025

After an early breakfast and checkout from the Girasoles Hotel in Lima, we will take a morning flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, we will transfer to the Sonesta Posadas del Inca Hotel in the Sacred Valley.

The hotel is located in a beautiful town called Yucay, in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, about 1:20 hours from the city of Cusco. On the first day it is important to rest for a bit in order to get used to the altitude of the city. The altitude in the Sacred Valley is lower than in the city, so it’s going to be a great way to acclimate to the altitude of Cusco. You will have time to rest and to have lunch at the hotel or at a nearby restaurant of your choosing.

*Overnight at the Sonesta Posadas del Inca Hotel

Day 2: Pisaq Market & Archaeological Site
July 18, 2025

The day begins with a visit to the Living Museum of Andean Culture in the town of Yucay, where you will gain insight into traditional Andean crafts and weaving techniques. We will then visit the Pisaq Market, a beautiful artisan market where you can find textiles, jewelry, ceramics, and other Andean handicrafts.

In the afternoon, we will explore the Pisaq Archaeological Site, a stunning Inca ruin with impressive terraces. After a full day of cultural visits, we return to Sonesta Yucay Hotel for the night.

*Overnight at the Sonesta Posadas del Inca Hotel

Day 3: Maras, Moray & Ollantaytambo
July 19, 2025

The day starts with a visit to the Moray Archaeological Site, an ancient Inca agricultural research center with circular terraces. We will then continue to the Maras Salt Mines, where locals have been harvesting salt for centuries.

A buffet lunch will be provided in the Sacred Valley before heading to Ollantaytambo, an Inca fortress known for its impressive stonework and strategic location.

In the late afternoon, we will take a train ride from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes), where we will spend the night in preparation for the following day’s visit to Machu Picchu.

*Overnight in Machu Picchu Town

Day 4: Machu Picchu!
July 20, 2025

Early in the morning, we will take a short bus ride to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world. You will have a guided tour of the site, exploring its temples, terraces, and breathtaking landscapes.

In the afternoon, we will take the train back to Cusco City, where we will spend the night.

*Overnight in Cusco City

Day 5: Natural Dyes Workshop & Free Afternoon
July 21, 2025

The morning will be dedicated to a Natural Dyes Workshop in the town of Chinchero, where local artisans will demonstrate the use of natural materials such as plants and flowers to create textile colors.

The afternoon will be free for personal exploration in Cusco City, allowing time to visit markets, museums, or simply relax.

*Overnight in Cusco City

Day 6: Cusco City Tour
July 22, 2025

We will enjoy a guided Cusco City Tour, visiting key historical and cultural sites, including Sacsayhuamán, Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), the Plaza de Armas (main square) and the Museo Maximo Laura to explore Maximo’s private collection of tapestries. This day will provide a deeper understanding of Cusco’s rich history and its fusion of Inca and colonial influences.
