Tapestries have long been used to fill Peruvian homes with colour and warmth. Indeed, weaving tapestries is an art form that has been passed from generation to generation, and by purchasing a contemporary tapestry from Peru, you are helping to keep the Peruvian tradition alive.
At Maximo Laura, we have created our unique contemporary tapestries using the millenary technique. This uses blended yarn rather than the solid colored yarn used traditionally. Unlike the traditional weaving methods, this gives our Peruvian tapestries a 3D effect where the art can be fully explored and touched. It also gives the tapestry a great modern twist and adds a beautiful aesthetic to any wall space. Browse our range of designs in our online contemporary tapestry gallery.

Enjoy A Handmade Contemporary Tapestry That Is Created Just for You
Maximo Laura’s online tapestry gallery is ready to view, and you can select your favourite Peruvian weavings design to be hung in your home.
Once you have made your request, a weaver will get to work on your tapestry. Our master weavers have all been trained by Maximo Laura in his styles and techniques, and they are also under his careful supervision while they weave your tapestry. We ensure that it is only one weaver who works on your tapestry so that you have a consistent finish that you can be proud of.
All our pieces are created by hand on a floor loom, and we take pictures of your tapestry during the creation process and while it is on the loom. Weaving a tapestry takes a long time as only a few centimetres can be added each day. Therefore, your finished hand-woven tapestry may take weeks or months to make, depending on the complexity and size of your design as it is built up row by row. We will also take a picture of your finished tapestry before it is prepared to be sent to you.
Before your tapestry can be sent, it will be put through a cleaning and stretching process to give it elasticity. Once this has been done, a Certificate of Authenticity is sewn onto the back, and it is signed by Maximo Laura. Your tapestry comes with two sleeves in the back, so it is ready to be hung by the method of your choice.
Your product will then be sent to you anywhere in the world using DHL Express.
Enquire with us about your favorite contemporary tapestry today and enjoy this piece of art in your home.
